PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR 2009 KING OF THE BLUEGRASS

The 2009 King of the Bluegrass Tennis Team Championships is only 176 days away. Preparations are already in full gear as the tournament looks to expand for the second straight season. This year the tournament field looks to quickly surpass the talent level of last season. The tournament already has it's first out of state team commitment. Charleston Catholic, defending boys state champion in West Virginia, returns at least four players that made championship appearences last season. The list of in state committments for the girls tournament includes locals Male, Manual, Mercy, Atherton, Presentation, Bullitt East, and Collegiate. The list of other in-state participants includes Hopkinsville, defending 2nd region champion, Daviess County, defending 3rd region champion, E-town, defending 5th region champ, North Oldham, defending 8th region champion, and Ft. Thomas Highlands, defending 10th region champion. The field also includes Nelson County, Greenwood, Calvary Christian, Lexington Christian, Larue County, Simon Kenton, Bowling Green, Villa Madonna, Paris, and Owensboro Catholic. The boys tournament includes locals Bullitt East, Atherton, and Collegiate as well as state powers Daviess County, defending 3rd region champion, Bowling Green, defending 4th region champion, Larue County, defending 5th region champion, Franklin County, defending 8th region champion, Corbin, defending 13th region champion, and Greenwood, defending King of the Bluegrass champion. Other in-state teams include Oldham County, Calvary Christian, Bourbon County, E-town, Highlands, North Oldham, South Oldham, Marion County, Russell, and Owensboro Catholic. The lone out-of-state committment at this time is defending West Virginia boys state champion Charleston Catholic.
